Thrifty, Vintage and Dapper

Monday, October 6, 2014

Last week I had the honor to speak with the youth at Hope Community Church with my awesome blogging friend Yolande (@thelanguageofyolande) of the Language of Yolande about style and thrift shopping and figured why not throw together an entirely thrifted outfit. Check out how I the vintage suit with modern pieces and accessories to create my #OOTD!

The blue wool pinstripe suit I found at Father and Son Consignment last year.
The shoes are Donald J Pliner loafers I found at a Goodwill.
The tie is Polo Ralph Lauren and it has the signature horse on a red back ground also picked up from Goodwill.
The shirt is from Brooks Brothers also found a local Goodwill.

FabEllis' Top Thrift Store Picks

Tuesday, December 11, 2012

When it comes to shopping, there is one store that is growing in popularity.  Whether you are looking for a chic office wardrobe or sophisticated date night attire, thrift stores are your one stop shop.  They not only provide affordable dapper items for men, but cost effective chic finds for women.

I love shopping at thrift stores not only for the affordability, but the unique, one-of-a-kind finds.  When it comes to shopping, thrift stores are my go to spot for certain items and the first place I recommend for certain pieces.  Want to know my top three pieces women can travel to the thrift store for?

My three favorite thrift store treasurers to find are below:

  1. Blazers
    • Whenever I’m asked where to find great blazers, my first answer is always the thrift store.  Thrift stores house any kind of blazer you could think of.  From vintage to recent items, they have an assortment of blazers.  Plus, blazers are a must-have for any closet because they can be worn to the office (depending upon the style), worn on date night and dressed down with jeans.  The great thing about purchasing them second hand is that they are affordable so you don’t have to worry about feeling guilty for buying multiple at one time!  J

  1. Dresses & Skirts
    • Just like blazers, an assortment of dresses and skirts can be found at your local thrift store.  Whether you are looking for a vintage item or current piece, this could be your go to place.  I have seen beautiful vintage dresses adorned with sequins or beautiful beading as well as some of the latest trends, including floral or leather.
  1. Accessories
    • If you follow my blog, you may already know that I’m sucker for great accessories.  Nothing sets off an outfit like a beautiful statement piece whether it is a necklace, earrings or gorgeous bracelet.  Your local thrift store could house accessories worth far more than the affordable price they sell it to you for.  Plus, accessories can be that one element to take a plain outfit over the top.

Next time you visit your local thrift store, keep these three great items in mind to look for.  Want to keep up with my thrifting adventures?  Find me online through the links below:
